Structural Assignment 1

Structural Existing Conditions Report

This technical report provides a documentation of the general existing conditions as well as engineered structural systems of The Medical Center in Southeast, USA.

Structural Notebook Submission A

Building Codes, Specifications, and Loads

This technical report provides a preliminary analysis of the loading conditions (gravity, wind, and seismic) imposed on The Medical Center.  A letter of transmittal is included at the beginning of the report to briefly introduce the context of the document.

Structural Notebook Submission B

Member Spot Check & Alternate Systems

This technical report investigates the overall effectiveness of the existing gravity force resisting system within The Medical Center. Strength and serviceability, among other considered criteria, are weighted and applied to the investigation in order to compare the existing gravity force resisting system to 3 alternative designs.

Structutal Notebook Submission B

Member Spot Check & Alternate Systems

A visually-aided presentation, displaying the results of the investigation performed within Structural Notebook B Submission, can be referenced here.

Structural Notebook Submission C

Lateral System Analysis Study

This technical report investigates the overall effectiveness of the existing lateral force resisting system within The Medical Center. Three-dimensional modeling analysis was utilized and discussed within the body of this report.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Kyle MacDonald. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
